Sanchali

Founded in 2008 by Dakshayini Gowda, Sanchali is a design house that makes sculptural and textile-based designs.

‘Sanchali’ means movement in Sanskrit. It is a movement towards encouraging ethically conscious and sustainable livelihood in traditional arts and crafts teamed with contemporary aesthetics to create authentic, one-of-a-kind designs. It was founded on the idea that socially responsible work conditions and environmental considerations aren’t just trends, but a way of the future.

Dakshayini Gowda

Dakshayini Gowda is an artist and designer living in Austria. She graduated from Chitrakala Parishat in Bangalore, India with a B.A. in Fine Arts, and later earned her double masters in Archaeology and Museology from Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda. Her unusual educational combination involved numerous traveling exertions to remote villages, where she acquired knowledge on regional and ancestral arts and crafts. Her love for indigenous crafts got stronger and she was drawn by the warmth and the philosophy of the local people, which was her most enriching experience. That changed her from being a visiting designer to someone who wanted to go further in creating opportunities for people in villages with a holistic approach through her designs. All these discoveries and insights eventually led to Sanchali.
